7.3 earthquake

We were just rocked by a substantial earthquake - magnitude 7.3, centered not far west of Martinique. Now that's what I call scary - about 2 minutes of sustained shaking. Cars rocked, motorbike shook, water tank shook and slopped water... and Puss fled.

I live in Dominican Republic & I felt the earthquake... & I checked the USGS Earthquake center when I saw that the epicenter was far from where I live... But It felt strong enough since I was taking a nap and it woke me up!! Of course, not as strong as it was felt at the epicenter!!

Yes, no reports of injuries or damage. Phone service a bit flakey, I think because everyone's calling home to check!

Steve, it was interesting to visit your blog site for my first time; although I regret was to check news on an earthquake. Thank you for providing it. I learned of you on www.dominica-weekly.com.

So glad I can read your blog. I hope no one in Dominica has been hurt or lost their home. Here in south Cheshire it dull wet and horrible.

Hi Steve
We are staying in Castle Bruce and I was sitting on the verandah with a Dominican friend when the quake struck. The ground wobbled like a jelly and I got everyone out of the building within seconds. It was scary. I have never felt anything like it before and neither had my Dominican friend who has lived here all his life. No damage sustained. I have heard that there is a crack in the RC church here in Castle Bruce but I haven't seen it myself yet - I'll check in the morning.
